Miranda Scanlon

Miranda is a member of the BHF Data Science Centre Public Advisory Group and contributes to the Kidney Data Science Catalyst.

Miranda has been a kidney patient all her adult life, diagnosed with polycystic kidney disease at 18. She had a living donor transplant in 2006.

Miranda has had a varied career, having been a research scientist working on plant genetics, a chartered accountant and an NCT antenatal teacher.  Subsequently she became a service user representative and researcher in maternity, with a particular interest in data, and worked at City, University of London as a senior research fellow.

In 2021 she became the Lay Advisory Group Lead at Kidney Research UK and in 2022 began co-chairing the newly formed UK Renal Health Data Research Network. 

She is committed to improving patient involvement in all kidney research, including data projects, so that research is focused on realising patient benefit.
