Professor Steffen Petersen has been appointed Interim Director of the BHF Data Science Centre as Professor Cathie Sudlow steps down from her role of Director to lead a major new study.
Professor Cathie Sudlow will be stepping down from her roles as Chief Scientist of HDR UK and Director of the BHF Data Science Centre as she embarks on her new role as Director of the Adolescent Health Study. Cathie’s leadership has been vital in establishing and growing the Centre, and pioneering advances in cardiovascular data science research. Her Sudlow Review, an independent review on the flows of health-relevant data across the four nations of the UK, is expected to be published later this year. We are very sad to see Cathie leave but wish her huge success in her new role.
The Centre is delighted to share that the current Deputy Director, Professor Steffen Petersen, will be taking on the role of Interim Director. Steffen is a Professor of Cardiovascular Medicine at Queen Mary University of London, a Consultant Cardiologist at Barts Heart Centre (Barts Health NHS Trust), President of the European Society of Cardiology’s European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging, UK Biobank cardiac imaging lead, and an expert in cardiac imaging data science. We extend our warmest congratulations to Steffen; we are excited you have taken on this role and look forward to working with you as Interim Director.
